Martyn Wilgress
It is with great sadness that we record the death of Martyn Wilgress on 20 November. Martyn played many times for Acle CC as a young man and was a strong hitting batsman. Martyn joined the Seniors in 2016 and played for the O60s 2nd XI, scoring over 180 runs for Norfolk. He suffered ill-health for several years, becoming less and less able to partake in the sport that he loved. Even whilst being treated for two types of cancer he proudly purchased one of our new track suits. Martyn was raised in Acle but spent much of his life living in Norwich and latterly in Stamford. Despite this, he turned out for the Seniors and for the Black Sheep. He will be laid to rest near his parents grave in Acle. The funeral will be on Monday 4 December at 1pm, at Acle Methodist Church, 2 Bridewell Lane, Acle, Norwich NR13 3RA. The funeral directors are Gedge of Blofield. He is mourned by us all, but especially by son Matthew and sister Lorna.

Financial
There have been additional expenses incurred over ground hire during 2023 and the situation is likely to get even worse next year. This, plus the fact that not all of the available 100 Club tickets have been purchased so far (contact James Kay (Jameskay005@gmail.com) to get your tickets) has put the Club into a potentially tricky financial situation. However, at the AGM recently the Treasurer, Mike Banham, announced that match fees will be held at £15 for 2024. We continue to be one of the very few clubs that charge no annual subscription – we believe that this policy of ‘pay when you play’ is fair – especially to those who get only a few games. The Committee hopes you will continue to understand and support this.
Health & Safety
A Message in a Bottle helps emergency services personnel to save valuable time in identifying an individual very quickly and knowing if they have any allergies or take special medication. Paramedics, police, fire-fighters and social services support this life-saving initiative.
The idea (thanks to Sue Palmer for raising this) is that you put your personal medical details in a sealed and labelled container and give it to the scorers before the game. If you are involved in an accident or have a medical incident during the game, the scorer will hand your container to the paramedic.
This scheme provides peace of mind that prompt and appropriate medical assistance can be provided, and next of kin / emergency contacts can be notified. The form will only be given to paramedics and doctors if you have an accident or fall ill whilst playing for Norfolk Seniors CC.
The Club and its officials will have no access to these records at any time. This has saved lives in the past – and could save yours!
The Club is sourcing containers – but in the meantime, please feel free to use your own.
Please feel free to download and use the medical form below - then you can print it off at home and fill it out at your leisure, all ready for the first game of the season.
