13th July 2017.
Norfolk Over 60's second XI vrs Cambs Over 60's second XI
Match report from Chris Palmer.
Well I hope you still have some fingernails left after yesterdays low scoring affair.
It was a great shame that Tuesday’s rain had got under the covers, and on loosing the important toss and getting asked to bat I was very pleased that the sun didn’t get out and dry the pitch.
Run scoring was difficult but Geoff batted superbly and his 79 from 120 balls was the innings of the day. Others failed to time the ball but as it turned out every run was gold-dust with Niel Wynn scoring 22 from 26 balls. Rocket hit an important boundary in the last over which took us to 152.
After an excellent tea provided by all the players, the skipper reminded his team that it would still be difficult to score if we bowled the right lines and did not get to ahead of ourselves. Last weeks poor start was long forgotten as Harold and Rocket bowled superbly without luck and the visitors were 29 without loss at 15 overs. Maurice Dye replaced Rocket and continued the good work. He took the 1st wicket in his 5th over as runs were still hard to find. Half way and Cambs/Hunts were 51 – 1. Wynnie bowled tightly before changing ends as Maurice finished his spell. Dave LeMoir entered the attack and the bowlers were rewarded with wickets at regular intervals with every catch being taken. At 30 overs the score was 65 – 3. Cambs/Hunts then had to score at the highest rate of the day. The bowlers held there nerve and disciplines and were well backed up in the field. With 10 overs to go 63 were needed. The visitors then had there best spell adding 26 in 5 overs Rocket returned for his second spell and struck almost immediately, but the visitors fought hard and 21 were needed from 12 balls. Dave conceded only 6 and Ron finished it all off with two wickets in two balls as the visitors were 138 all out to leave us winners by 14 runs.
All round an excellent effort, but the match was won by our fielding and bowling performance. Not a catch was put down, and the bowlers didn’t concede a single wide or no ball.

Leicestershire Over 60's seconds vrs Norfolk Over70's seconds
Match Report from Chris Palmer
Was I glad I managed to win the toss yesterday on an extremely hot day in Leicestershire. There was no way I wanted our bowlers or fielders to have to run around in that heat.
Geoff Roper and Joe Perry started watchfully and at the first drinks break we were 49 without loss from 15 overs. Gradually the batsmen became more aggressive with Geoff reaching his half century from 71 balls. Joe also completed his maiden O60’s half century from 78 balls. Joe was out soon after for 58 made from 89 balls with the total 152 at the 2nd drinks break. Geoff soon followed for 78 from 89 balls and Niel Wynn and Martyn Willgress added 18, and Colin Jackson soon followed to leave us 176 for 4 with 7 overs to bat. Chris Palmer joined Niel and the pair had fun in the sun scoring 39 before Chris was out for 22 from 15 balls. Niel continued and when time was called he was 42 not out from 44 balls as Norfolk finished on 235 for 5 wkts.
Leicestershire started watchfully but were helped by mistakes with overthrows conceded and catches dropped and were soon 50 off 11 overs. Ron Ashdown struck the first blow with the score on 53. What followed a short time later was a worrying fall to Colin Jackson. He fell backwards attempting a catch and hit his head on the hard ground. ( Maybe he needs to attend Geoff Saunders training sessions for running backwards!)
After a good few minutes Colin was helped from the field and we pressed on with 10 men. The slow bowling of Maurice Dye started to gain control but chances still went begging. Dave LeMoir replaced Ron and struck immediately and Leics were 109 – 2 from 24 overs. This provided the spark and only 17 runs were scored from 6 overs when Maurice finished his spell 0 – 31 from 9 overs drinks were taken. Colin Jackson re-joined the team and David soon bowled opener Cham for 43 and with man of match Niel Wynn replacing Maurice the pair strangled the Leicester reply and from 123 they lost 7 wickets for 34 runs and were all out for 157, David 4 – 27, Niel 4 – 15.
In the end a good win, however I felt, for the fist half of the Leicester reply, we did not reach the standards we have previously set in the field, and at 107 for 1 from 23 overs we woke up and the pressure we imposed on our opponents began to show and they imploded badly.
Congratulations to Joe Perry for his maiden 50 and an excellent catch on the boundary.
