This was a welcome win for Norfolk which was engineered by a patient innings from R Yates going in early at number 3 and was very well supported by M Cusack and B Clark. The total is about par at Mundford and needed some containing bowling to ensure that the Herts batsmen failed to reach the target despite a very well constructed 84 by D Robinson.
Over 50’s 2nds v Two Counties, Old Buckenham, 14/5/14
2C won the toss and chose to bat on a lovely sunny day at the picturesque OB ground. Les Able and Robin Yates opened the bowling and kept things fairy tight with Les picking up 3 wickets in his 9 overs for just 16 runs and RY 1 for 32 off 9, so after 18 overs 2C were 49 for 4. However the middle order took a liking to some friendly bowling and a solid 78 by J Gallant supported well by 49 from S Bulger pushed the score up to a respectable 191 for 6 at innings close. Both Barry Ovel on debut (9 overs, 1 for 38) and Bryn Clark (9 overs for 34) bowled tightly in the circumstances.
In reply Norfolk’s opener Mark English made a good 26 before being out in the 17th over with the score on only 33 for 3 which meant the middle order were always under pressure to get the run rate up, so with Bob Eagleton scoring 29, R Yates 47n.o. and Clark 23n.o. it was too little too late. Norfolk finished on 143 for 5 losing by 48 runs. Our thanks to Old Buckenham for hosting the game, in particular Mike Banham, who not only made the teas (with help from Bryn’s wife) but played as we were one short.
