Present: A. Gregory (Chair), M. Banham, A. Broughton, C. Palmer, J. Perry,
G. Saunders, C. Yallop
1 .Welcome AG welcomed the committee members attending.
2. Apologies: A. King, P. Thomas
3. Minutes of last Meeting
The minutes of the 23 April 2019 meeting were read and signed by AG as a true record.
4. Matters Arising not appearing later in the Agenda None
5. Correspondence
JP summarised briefly correspondence between Chris Watson, CY and JP concerning the proposed joint Norfolk and Suffolk O75 team and the Suffolk O60s IIIrd team. It was clarified that the latter was informal this year, likely to be part of the National league next year and would not involve Norfolk players.
6. Chairman’s Report
AG reported he had recruited a couple of players via the club’s Facebook page. AG said it was important to obtain a link to our websites from the front page of the forthcoming One League Norfolk website; JP agreed to contact Kieran Tuck to request this.
Action: JP
7. Treasurer’s Report
MB reported that we have £2622 in our account. Future expenditure items will include: billing for orange balls; caps (about £300). MB concluded that finances are healthy and we have few future outgoings. JP agreed to put order in for caps.
Action: JP
8. 2019 Fixtures
8.1 O50s
AG reported he had recruited new players Mark Spillit and Adam Penton for the O50s and registration forms are required. O50s had lost all three recent league matches but were competitive. The main problem was the batting. JP agreed to coordinate registrations.
Action: JP
8.2 O60s 1st XI
AK had reported prior to the meeting that O60s 1st XI had won all four recent league matches fairly comfortably.
8.3 O60s 2nd XI (Rebels)
CP reported that the O60s 2nd XI had played three games, being beaten by Hunts/Cambs at Wisbech on a pitch that had been soaked earlier, beaten by Essex but winning against Bedfordshire. Regarding finance, CP reported a healthy credit. Mike Tooke’s registration was confirmed.
8.4 O70s
GS reported that two or three players were still not getting a regular place in the O70s team. There would be a friendly on 20th June vs Surrey, and those players should then get a game. The O70s have played two and won two and are second in the league, having scored 230+ in both games. GS reported a possible future friendly versus Holkham.
Skippers of all sides were reminded that CY needs to be informed if friendlies are arranged or proposed.
8.5 O60s International vs Australia
AG reported that this match was confirmed for Old Buckenham on 16th June. All arrangements had been made. Australia will arrive at 12:00 noon for a 45 over game. MB reported that fish and chips were ordered for around 7pm. AK and Colin Walters (Suffolk) have selected the team to include six from each county.
9. Polo shirts and caps

7. 2019 Registration
Joe Perry reported that he had received 58 registered from playing members, nine of which have subs outstanding. The total is 15% down on last year. MB clarified players who had paid recently. There were two social members registered. JP agreed to circulate the Committee with current registration details, chase up final remaining members expected to join or renew, and to liaise with John Ruddick regarding registering players on the Play-Cricket website.
Action: JP
8.1 2019 Malta Tour
This had been a success. It was well-organised by Harold Van Zanten who was unanimously commended by the Committee. The Committee recommended we go back next year. MB felt that the only minor criticism of the Norfolk squad was that there needed to be more consideration of the numerical balance between bowlers and batsmen. It is unfair on a touring party if the same people bat and bowl excessively.
8.2 Nets
Taverham nets were OK, and turn-out improved for the second session. We lost a little bit of money on the indoor nets but this was recouped at outdoor nets. Next year we must try to book in advance – GS volunteered to try for three nets for February/March.
Action: GS
8.3 Pre-Season Friendlies
Forthcoming matches were discussed: at Copford on Monday 13 May, which CP agreed to skipper, and at Overstrand Saturday 27 April.
9. 2019 Fixtures
Those 9.1-9.4 were now all on the website.
9.1 O50s (Andy Gregory)
9.2 O60s 1st XI (Andy King)
9.3 O60s 2nd Rebels XI (Chris Palmer)
9.4 O70s (Geoff Saunders)
9.5 International vs Australia
This will be a joint Norfolk/Suffolk O60s team on Sunday June 16th, at Old Buckenham. The contact is AG. The skipper will be AK, who will liaise with Colin Walters (Suffolk). Regarding pre-match arrangements MB volunteered to get OB personnel to do tea/coffee. AG volunteered to do the tea for the game. Australia will be charged at cost price for both tea and also fish and chips after the match, likely to be £45+. It is anticipated that there will be a 12 noon start (Australia are travelling from Essex and returning there.)
10. O75s (and see above under item 6)
CY reported that currently the proposed O75 team is a purely informal initiative between some Suffolk players coordinated by Chris Watson and Norfolk players coordinated by Mike Smith, who intend to play friendly fixtures outside the aegis of either County. It was noted that players may need to check their insurance cover, since they will not be covered by either County.
11.1 Polo Shirts
It was noted that the new shirts are generally on the small side. CP stated that the shirts would have been improved if the word “Cricket” had been inserted in a relevant position. CP and GS agreed to liaise over this issue.
Action: GS & CP
11.2 Caps
JP reported that Nobby Cobb had volunteered to continue to maintain statistical data on player appearances and the Committee expressed its thanks to Nobby. JP reported that we currently had in hand no caps for new players, 4 caps for 50+ appearances and 3 caps for 100+ appearances. GS agreed to obtain a quote for a further batch of new, 50+ and 100+ caps.
Action: GS
12. 100 Club
GS agreed to email everyone in mid-May as a step towards possibly starting the 100 Club in June. GS, MB and AK will be signatories.
Action: GS
13. Eastern Group O60s and O70s meeting 24 April
JP reported the Agenda of the forthcoming meeting tomorrow at which the Chair of the Eastern Group of counties will be elected. JP agreed to pass on the Committee’s view that the Eastern Group needed to meet again before this year’s AGM in November.
14. Websites
The Committee were happy with the current state of the official website and the Facebook page. JP agreed to amend the Play-Cricket website to update the status of squad players. Regarding submission of match reports, AB will continue for O60s and O70s and CP for the O60s 2nd Rebels XI.
Action: JP
15. Any other business
In response to questions regarding selection policy, JP read from the Constitution Appendix B which instructs Captains to select for championship matches, the strongest, balanced side possible. The Committee endorsed the policy of CP regarding selection of the O60s 2nd Rebels XI.
The next meeting will be on Monday 3 June at The George Hotel, Dereham.
There being no further business, the Chairman closed the meeting at approximately 21:00.
Signed, as a true record of the proceedings:
